"Fall at Waldhaus"
Watercolor (22"x30")

Inspired by a real photo taken from my home, this piece is a memory token of where I grew up. Using watercolors, brushes, and sponges I recreated the view from my front door, showing the beginning of fall colors appearing in the trees, and the beautiful sunset sky over the Elkhorn river.
"Cat-a-tude"
Watercolor (12"x16")

This watercolor piece was inspired by my cat, Dora. Using watercolors, brushes, and masking fluid, I recreated the look she gives you when you do an annoying sound or move around too much. I felt just simply capturing a simple image of her would be too flat, but showing an emotion she commonly gives gave the piece more depth and story-telling.
"Coffee House Collage"
Watercolor (22"x30")

I first started this piece by creating an actual collage with cutout images and snippets of scrap paper. I then recreated the image on a larger scale using watercolors and masking fluids. The inspiring themes were coffee house and religion, hence the more brown color pallete and several biblical quotes.
"An Abstract Stairway to Heaven"
Watercolor (30"x22")

The goal of this project was to listen to a song we enjoy and then recreate it in an abstract painting. The song I chose was "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zepplin. The beginning of the song is very calm and soothing, which I interpreted as soft blue waves and swirling reds and yellows. Later in the song the music gets more sharp and louder, which translated into the harsh red and blue lines and zig-zagging patters. Finally, I brought the whole piece together with splashes of paint, showing the unity of the piece.
"Orange Slice"
Acrylic (22"x30")

This piece explored using layers of acrylic paint by creating a base shape and shadowing with a single color and then adding on top of it with different colors, enhancing the depth of the piece. I experimented with watering down the acrylic paint to help the first layer come through the second and really show the depth and perspective of the orange.
